In which I brag about my friends.

My IRL friends have been doing some pretty awesome things lately and I thought, hey, why not share the happiness with everyone?

Also, I like to brag about the fact I know cool people in order to make up for my own inadequacies.

My friend Ian FINALLY decided to open up a Society6 account to sell his artwork on.  Much like the guy himself, his artwork is quirky and downright strange at times, but I think that's why so many of our friends like it.

So far he only has the above piece listed, but he's promised to lock himself up for two weeks and become a certified recluse in order to produce more art.  Needless to say, once he does post more stuff I will share it with all of you because I'm a good friend that likes good art. My friend Jackson, who is my friend Madelyne's boyfriend made this kickass video of their road trip to the Olympic swimming trials that were held earlier this summer in Omaha.  Whenever I watch it I have the insatiable urge to jump in a car and drive for miles and miles.

And, my friend Jeremy (who is dating my friend Andria) got a book deal!  Sadly I don't have anything to link to, BUT the book is coming out in January, so most likely by then the book will have a website or something.  I'm mainly super excited because I've already been promised a free signed copy, and I really like free stuff.  Oh, did I mention that the book is a sci-fi novel about space and ships and other fun things that I like?

And finally, I talked my friend Harrison into getting a blog. I always get a little giddy whenever I "convert" someone.  So yes, go view his blog.

Websites that I like to peruse when I have an inkling of free time.

So it’s summer, and if you’re like me you’re stuck in this waiting mode because you’re schedule has these random gaps of free days. But have no fear! I’ve come to share some of my favorite websites that help me pass the time while I wait anxiously for my road trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

I don’t know about you guys, but I love infographics. Wait, you don’t know what that is? (huge gasp!) let me enlighten you! An infographic is a hip, new way of relaying information in a user friendly and engaging format. Think of it as the less boring version of a powerpoint! Good.is <- a place you should check out if you want to be informed on random things.

Secondly, shout out to my girls! If you’re a guy you’ll probably want to avoid HelloGiggles.com due to the fact that it might de-man you (what?). BUT if you’re a girl that likes cute videos, fashion tips, and articles written by Zooey Deschanel, then go directly to Hello Giggles. Now.

Also, I like perusing various design zines/blogs such as Grain Edit, Co.Design,and Design*Sponge. I get a lot of inspiration from these places, and I also amass a lot of envy for the brilliant minds that birthed those great ideas.

Another website I love is Lost at E minor. It sort of carries the theme of Good and some of the design websites I listed, but the amount of categories that it covers pertain more to art than other things. I don’t know. It just has a lot of cool things you can learn about like energy sustainable dance clubs and whatnot.

And of course I love reading your blogs (Aria, Lizzie, Natalie, Em, Drew, Christopher, Ed, Ashley, Eeshie, Ash and everyone else!)

So today I had a dentist appointment at 8am (I know, what an unholy summer hour) for a regular check up and cleaning. My mom picked me up from home, drove me there, and while filling out the dental/medical sheet, we messed up twice and had to get new forms.

Yeah. What can I say, it was at an unholy hour. Then after we finished filling out that horrible sheet I went in for my cleaning and check up. Good news, I have zero cavities. Bad news, I went out with more pain than I came in with. What is it with dentists and pain?

Anyways while looking for random philosophy stuff, I stumbled across this odd, yet slightly refreshing website called the Interactive Social Contract. The web address is http://vototron.com/On this website you can create Laws, Bylaws, oppose whatever ideas you disagree with, and support those you do. The navigation takes some getting used to, but overall personally I think it's an enjoyable website! Check it out!

Junk List

Comic Art of Note

So I decided it was time I did a post on all of my favorite web comics, and maybe try and get the word out on these excellent artists and writers. Check them out if you dare. I bet I've got a comic on here for everyone :P

Optimum Wound.

If you're looking for nonstop, hardcore, realistic action Op. Wound comics are for you. Here you can find the ever popular Rex by Danijel Zezelj and Memento Mori by Richard Serrao, and many other kick @ss comics. They have a distinctive realistic black and white style that makes them stand out among other web comics, and now they've even extended themselves toward the comic stand. Rated M for a lot of yummy violence and butt kicking.

Freak Angels

This anime style four paneled comic is definitely one to keep you on your toes. Not only are all of the pages in color, it has an excellent story to boot! Set in post apocalyptic flooded England, 12 gang members that hold special bond have set themselves up a pretty decent life when a girl from Manchester shows up accusing one of their members of murder. There's a lot more to the plotline, but I'm afraid if I continue typing I'll give the whole story away. Rated M for language and implications.

Never Trust The Wizard

A kind of scary, but very interesting comic. It's still too early on in the series to tell where it's going, but the story sure is interesting to me so far. I found this artist through Deviant Art, and his artwork looks as if he pulled it straight out of a nightmare. Rated Older Teen for gore.

Ode to the Night

Another anime/realistic styled comic. It's set in a dark world of vampires and their slayers. Can't say much about it....OTHER THAN THE FACT IT'S AWESOME. They put a lot more detail into characters instead of backgrounds. Rated T for dark themes.

Nossus

This comic is a bit of a mystery to me. It's your classic story of growing up, and apart from your best friend. A kind of "finding yourself" type of story. Rated PG so far.

A shonen-ai site that has a few short little comics. Dunno what to rate it right now, but it's very cute :]

Thought Provoking Words

Today I was kinda pissed when I got home because I was thinking of all my friends and how hypocritical we all seem. Half my friends have all the latest phones and iPods and computers, but I say nothing to them.

Not many people know, but those are some of the few things I am against in this society. We don't need all this excess crap in our lives. We don't need a $50 dollar shirt, or $200 dollar phones that we're just gonna chunk out in the next five months. T

here are friggin starving kinds out on OUR streets while all the middle and upper class stuff themselves with food and surround themselves with unnecessary luxuries.

You don't need to get your nails done every week! Can you believe that? You could do them yourself at home! Isn't that a surprising concept?

You don't need 50 pairs of pants! There are underprivileged kids with only rags to wear on a daily basis. Donate your clothes!
