My weekend just got awesome.

Just kidding. I was being sarcastic.

Because that's what I do.

I'm trying to iron out this student loan business, but it sucks. So bad. Right now I'm currently scolding myself and my parents for not letting me get a real job. Throughout high school I had the desire to get one, but either there wasn't one available, or my parents told me to focus more on my grades.

So now, here I am, in need of a co-signer for my loans because I have no credit history. Awesome.

And I mean, I've gone down the avenues of asking most of my family members and everything, but everyone's credit is so shitty that they're automatically denied. This past year wasn't a good year for my parents. Their business was hit pretty hard with the recent economic downturn, so they aren't in the position to co-sign for me. My mom lives off of my step-dad's income, so she isn't eligible to co-sign for me.

I'm stuck.  Right now I'm running through my options with my parents, and they consist of two things. 1)Find a co-signer, or don't go to college because most application deadlines for other schools have passed, or 2)Join ROTC, they'll pay for my schooling fully, during summer I'd have to train with them, and then after I graduate I'd have to serve 2 years of active duty.

Personally, I don't like option 2 because I'm not a military-type person, but according to my dad, it's either that or no college for me.

I just got off the phone with my mom trying to figure out if there's anyone on her side of the family that could help, but my options aren't looking to good.

The entire situation is silly.  And I'm not angry at anyone, or anything, I just feel---- sad.

I wish my family was capable of paying for my education. I wish I knew someone who was eligible to co-sign on  my loans. I wish everything was OK.

So. I'm going to put on my happy face, and try to work something out.

*edit: currently working something out.

  1. Books-A-Million is still hiring, I think. If not, I'm sure if we talked to the manager I could quit and have you take my spot. I mean, I still have GameStop so it's not like I'll be going without a job. I selfishly have two of the better jobs in East Texas and if you want one I can give it to you. I'm sure Jake, the manager, would love you. I don't nessecarily need two jobs since financial aid is paying for almost all of my college.

  2. That's really shitty. I hope things work out.

I know people who are in the reserves. It isn't a terrible path, from what I've heard.

Also, is taking a gap year an option? It would be kind of disappointing, then you could have another year to get things together while also working to make some money.

  3. Wow that is pretty bad. One of the problems I have with higher education is the costs involved. I think my family would be able to cosign a loan though. I don't recommend the second option really, but if you want to go to college that bad then you have to do what you have to do I guess.

  4. Can you not apply to take a year out, get a job and then re-apply next year so that you have a credit history?

Personally, I think the military option would be kind of an amazing route to do but obviously, that's a personal decision.

The whole situation sucks and I hope it gets sorted out :(

  5. I'm sorry you're in this situation, yet if I know anyone that can get out of a tough place, it's you. Seriously. I know we're not exactly BFFs, and we haven't actually met, but I truly believe you are capable of doing whatever it takes to accomplish whatever you have your mind set on.

Good luck with everything these next few weeks bring you, my dear.

Graduation is just around the corner and who knows? Maybe you'll get a summer job and find someone who can co-sign. Keep your happy face smiling.

  6. I agree with what Lizzie said, you seem like you can get what you want, and I mean that in the best of ways.
Also, I don't know how you would feel about this, but you can always call your school's financial office and explain your situation. One of my teachers told me that more often than not they are willing to work something out or at least advise you as to what to do.

Me, personally, I'd go with option two. But the situation you're in does suck. I mean on the bright side, it's a story worth telling when all is over and done with. :p

    Stay strong and be awesome.

  7. Thats a really sucky situation to be in. I would say option two, but of course its your decision and the only one that makes it should be you.
