Date

Ok. So.

After my first date with JB, it's official.  I am the awkwardest person on the face of planet earth.

We looked at Halloween costumes, got frozen yogurt, and then saw End of Watch (which I highly recommend).

I'll spare you guys the extensive details of my debilitating social ineptitude and just say this: I'm lucky that JB is very patient, because at times I'm very oblivious to things.  And sometimes my brain stops working and it's just... awful and all I can think about is space, and how it's a vacuum, and how sometimes it's scary, but in a fascinating way, kind of like sharks. Space sharks.

BUT.  He wants to go out with me again.  Most likely because of our shared love of food and action movies.

So.  Yeah.  I'm not good about writing about feelings in this area, so I'm just going to go watch the new episode of Doctor Who and try not to cry because 1) Amy and Rory are leaving, and 2) It's the mid-season finale.

Wonderful day

I love it when everything in the universe aligns and I have a wonderful day.

It doesn't happen all the time, which I guess makes it all the more precious when it does occur.

Today started out pretty lazy.  I woke up at around 8:40ish due to a text from JB saying that he had a fun time at the movies.  Then after I ate breakfast I busied myself with cleaning my room and doing laundry.  Tidying up my room is always therapeutic for some reason... Also, I always seem to find things that I've forgotten about, like my first Harry Potter shirt that I got in the 8th grade!

I can still fit in it too... sort of.  It's a little tighter in the chest area than what I remember, so it'll just have to be a "wear at home" type of shirt.  I don't want to besmirch the brilliance of Harry Potter with skankyness.

From 2-8ish I ran around town with Rebekka doing random things.  We went to Books-A-Million like we usually do and read magazines and gossiped about people and girly things.  For fun (and added blog content) I decided to document our reading choices.
Le me on the top, and Rebekka below.
As you can see from above, I fancy the Scientific American, Rolling Stone, Time, Wired, Mental Floss, and Newsweek, and Rebekka enjoys perusing Wired, Rolling Stone, Vogue, and Cosmopolitan.  Whenever we find an interesting article or factoid we always share them with each other.

One of my favorites from tonight's exchange was a story explaining why Kristen Stewart cheated on Robert Pattinson with the director of Snow White and the Huntsman. According to the article, in nature, peahens like to steal peacocks from their mates because their appeal is higher than that of a loan bird.  In a human case study, women viewed pictures of men alone as well men with another woman, and it was found that most of the women found the men in the couple picture more attractive than that of the singular men.  Apparently they are more appealing because they've already proven themselves to have desirable qualities that make other women want to mate with them.

After a bit of discussion in the aisles of Toys R Us , Rebekka and I came to the conclusion that the article was full of shit.  We're not birds.  We're human beings with complex thought and reasoning, and using examples in nature is just a cop out.  Bitches will be bitches, and they will steal your significant others if they can.  I mean, whenever I find out that a guy has a girlfriend I'm just like, "Okay, we can still be friends, but let's keep a respectable distance between us so that nothing is misconstrued.  Also, broski, did you see the newest Mythbusters episode?"

Gotta respect the girl code.

Anyway, I also bought more yarn.  I started a scarf after my last post, but I ended up running out of yarn before I was finished so I decided to buy more.  Sadly, Hancock Fabrics was selling the yarn for $6.99 and being the Jew that I am I refused to pay that much for 102 yards of yarn, so Rebekka and I journeyed to Walmart to see if they had the same yarn, but at a lower price (plus, she let me use her employee discount!).  When we arrived I was sad to see that they indeed carried the brand of yarn, but not the color.  Instead of leaving empty handed I bought a different type of yarn.  It's a golden yellow color and it's SO SOFT. As soon as I picked it up I envisioned myself wearing it with one of my navy dresses and sipping tea at a cafe.  It's so autumnal.  I'll have to post a picture of it later.

Also, an update on my painting:  I did indeed sketch it out last night, but I ended up not liking the way it looked, so I erased all of it.  So I'm back at square one.  Ah well, the muses are fickle.

Oh, and before I forget, here's a picture of me eating the most delicious tortilla soup in my town:
Nom, nom, nom!
The waiter came up just as the flash went off and started laughing and all I could say was, "I'm sorry!  It's for my blog!" and he just laughed even more.  Ah well, at least he was nice about the odd situation.

To wrap up my splendid day I came home to a new episode of Doctor Who that was just BEYOND brilliant, as well as the news that I had won Lina's Polaroid camera giveaway for her blog's 5th birthday!

I'm very, very happy.  I hope that tomorrow is equally as grand.

Lawless.

So remember a few posts back, about hanging out with the guy from the gym?

Yes. Well.  We went to the movies today before he had to go in for work, and I wasn't completely awkward!

We went to see Lawless, which in my opinion was pretty funny, and I have to admit that the overall experience was fun.  I think I laughed in parts that weren't supposed to be funny... but whenever people get beaten with shovels I can't help but giggle a little.

I'm glad that my crippling social awkwardness didn't make an appearance.  I was actually able to make small talk and not sound like a complete moron.

ALSO, JB (which is what we'll call him... because that's his name) hates Nickleback. And Avril Lavigne. Win, and win.  And he likes pepper jack cheese.  This is good.

Anyway, tonight I'm going to stay up and watch the high school football portion of the news segment that he's on and actually try to understand what's going on.  I watched it last week and it was pretty good, despite the fact that I was like, "What? Oh hey, there's JB! If only I understood what he was talking about..."

So yeah. Hanging out with him was nice.

I think I have an idea of what I want my new painting to be... I'm going to start sketching it tonight and hopefully I can get far enough along to post my progress some time this weekend.  I love this giddy feeling I get every time I start a new project.

Mayte tweeted me told me that she got her postcard in the mail and I felt happy because she said that both her and her mom liked it.  Maybe I'll do another postcard project after I finish up with my painting.

Females can be ridiculous.

Aha! So, as promised, a picture of my painting that now hangs in my bathroom, creeping my sister out.  I usually don't paint anything this abstract (I tend to be more portrait oriented), but I've been digging the gold/eye trend that's been floating about.  Also, as I mentioned before, the fact that it creeps my sister out really makes me happy in a demented way.  She gets creeped out by the silliest things.  For example: She goes CRAZY with fear and will run around the house screaming if she hears the Twilight Zone theme song, which is conveniently programmed into my phone.  I can't say much though, because I refuse to watch horror films unless it's daytime.  And even then, I try to avoid them.  I tend to have an overactive imagination.

ANYWAY.  Onto the title of my post, 'Females can be ridiculous'.

Yesterday I went to see Magic Mike.  Yes.  The movie about the male strippers.  I have no shame.

And I can honestly say that I went in with low expectations, thinking that there would be no plot and it would be all about the guys dancing seductively on a stage (don't get me wrong, the movie had plenty of that), however the movie actually had a decent story line, and Channing Tatum was a superb leading actor.

I was a bit disappointed that Matt Bomer, the actor I was most interested in seeing, was only in the movie for perhaps a combined total of 15 minutes, with no major lines.  Ugh.  That guy is too gorgeous to be playing second fiddle to Alex Pettyfer, whose acting lacked the zeal that his cast member's provided.  I mean, come on! With a face like his, WHY WOULD YOU NOT GIVE HIM A BIGGER ROLE?

I literally spent 5 minutes deciding on the perfect picture set of him to use, because  all of them are perfect.
Then again, I think the majority of my disappointment towards the Matt Bomer situation can be chalked up to the trailers, which falsely lead me to conclude that he would have a role equal to that of the other actors.  Oh well.  He was still extremely sexy during all of his scenes.

Actual movie aside, I can say that my experience seeing Magic Mike was definitely different.  Instead of seeing it the day it came out, knowing that the theaters would be packed, my stepmom and I decided to wait until the day after.  We had cleared our schedules and decided on the 2:04 showing. When we got to the theater it was PACKED with women between the ages of 40-60 EVERYWHERE.  When we finally made it up to the ticket counters we read signs saying that Magic Mike had sold out for the 2:04 viewing and that the 4:40 tickets were going fast.  I deftly maneuvered my way to the front of the line and bought our tickets before they were sold out.

After going home for a short while we returned to the theater around 4:14, thinking that we were arriving early, BUT NO.  There was a roped off line, that was eventually the length of the entire half of the theater, of excited, middle to late aged women waiting.  Waiting to get a good seat, waiting to have their fantasies fulfilled, waiting to objectify gorgeous men, waiting to do who knows what.  It was ridiculous.  And it involved a lot of disturbing giggling from sexually frustrated grandmas.

The theater in my town wasn't even this packed for any of the Harry Potter films.

I nearly drowned in all the estrogen.  And the condensed mixture of perfume and desperation.

Among the throng of women were a few disgruntled husbands/boyfriends, but within the first five minutes they didn't stay disappointed for too long due to Olivia Munn's breasts being exposed while she exchanged witty banter with a nude Channing Tatum.  Of all the nudity in the film, I'd have to say 25% of it was female, and the rest of it male.  I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone who is uptight about nudity and sexual themes (obviously because that's what a vast majority of the film consists of), but I do think it warrants a recommendation for those who are actually curious about the male dance industry and the pitfalls within it.  As cliche as it sounds, there was a genuine 'stripper with a heart of gold' theme interlaced throughout the film, and as soon as the credits started rolling I wished I could have continued viewing the different paths that the characters took.

Whenever I get upset that there wasn't more to a movie I take it as a sign that the writers did their job in getting me engaged and invested in the characters that they created.

Wait, did I just somewhat write a review about Magic Mike?  Huh.  It appears so. Well, I guess all I have to add to this review is a recommendation to give it a chance.  I know that I'll be seeing it in the foreseeable future again (if I can talk any of my friends into seeing it with me), and if anyone accuses me of being a wanton objectifier of men?

Pffft.  Chill out.  If guys can have stashes of porn magazines, don't judge me for having my Turtles board.

p.s. My grandma freaked when she found out that I was going to see Magic Mike with my stepmom, but suggested to my stepmom that she accompany the movie with 'the talk' beforehand, in order to properly prepare my young, innocent mind. LOLZ.  My grandma has no idea that the internet has evolved beyond AOL.

Progress Report

Man. So much has happened since I last posted.

1- I bought my own phone, and I finally have a bill to start paying. It's a pretty shitty non-smart phone, but right now I don't really need anything fancy.

2- I opened my own personal bank account. Most people my age have already had one open for AGES, but up until now I didn't really have the need for one.

3- I manned up and bought myself a pair of Nike's to aid in my running. Gosh. There is a HUGE difference between cheap trainers and those of the more serious brand. Again, I never really had the need for them because prior to this whole Air Force business I've never really been sporty. Running is still a bit difficult for me, but since I run 1.5 miles 6 days a week it has gotten a little easier.  Hopefully by the time I leave for basic training I'll be somewhat in shape.  I'm getting a gym membership soon, so that should help as well. I seriously regret not being sporty during high school. All of this physical activity is kicking my ass.

4- I finally opened my Etsy shop! It took me longer than expected, and not all of my art is uploaded, but I got it up by June, just like I promised. I have been busy literally every single day since school has been out, so I really need to step up my game and finish more art so that I can list it. Anyways, you can visit my Etsy shop here!

Also, I'm finding myself in a bit of a predicament.  I've been meeting with my AF recruiter and we were talking about jobs that I can enter into and he keeps on pushing mechanical jobs. Not that I think I'm above certain jobs or anything, but my highest score in the placement test was administration. Mechanical was one of my lower scores.  I understand that he has a quota to fill and whatnot, but it doesn't really make sense to force me into something that I didn't score so high in.

I don't know.  After this past experience with my parents I know better than to let someone talk me into something that I don't feel 100% about.

This whole "growing up" business is tedious.

In which I apologize

So. Today I got compared to Margaret Thatcher. Keep in mind the fact that I live in Texas, and the guy that had just compared me to her is a Republican whose knowledge of the woman extends as far as movies and documentaries he's seen.

So. I don't quite know how I feel about that. I'm sure he meant it as a compliment, but whatever. He's a dick. Just kidding. He's just really hoity-toity.

ANYWAYS. Today I was in a FOUL mood and I released my anger in the form of sharp, yet witty remarks that made people laugh nervously whilst giving each other furtive glances. So to those who I might have offended with my uncensored comments: I apologize. I was having a less than extraordinary day.

And then I got home and saw this:
And my day ended up being ok. I'm going to relax a bit, do my math homework, watch some New Girl, and enjoy the wonderful bounty that the universe has laid before me.

p.s. Recently I've been very addicted to listening to Tom Jones (She's a Lady) as well as Curtis Mayfield (Move On Up) and I'm not embarrassed about it one bit.

Updates

So, all those horrible awful, doubt-filled days I've been having?

DONE. This week has just been so awesome that I feel like it makes up for every crappy day I've had since the beginning of the school year. I mean, nothing can really describe how I feel, but thisFlorence song comes pretty darn close.

So, reasons why I'm feeling awesome:

1. I got my scholarship reply in the mail! Along with my letter they sent me a box of yummy Godivas. I'm convinced that I'm going to the awesomest school in the universe.

2. Today I FINALLY learned how to make spring rolls. As someone who is half Filipino, I felt like a fail for not knowing how to cook food from my own culture, but now I know how to make yummy delicious spring rolls!

3. For my school's senior superlatives I was voted most likely to be famous (for girls) and I made it into the senior hall of fame, which is voted on by teachers.

4. Yearbook is THIS close to being finished. I mean, don't get me wrong, we're all sweating bullets trying to get pages sent in before deadline, but I'm starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel!

5. In a mere few weeks I will be in Dallas, dancing my face off to Grouplove and Young the Giant at the Prophet Bar. I.CAN'T.WAIT.

So yeah. Despite having to read Heart of Darkness, complete a take home test for AP Eco, write a children's book for AP Eco, complete AT LEAST two art pieces, and write a paper over Rosencrantz and Guildenstern--- ALL DURING SPRING BREAK--- I'm going to be ok. Everything is great.
COME AT ME WORLD.

Good day.

Despite being sleep deprived this morning I bucked up. I had a cup of coffee in my awesome camera mug and put on a cute dress and cardigan to celebrate the warm Texas weather.

My friend Rebekka and I have started having Best Friend Wednesdays in which we study/gossip/read a myriad of magazines at our local bookstore, so I did that.

I got a lot of compliments from my friends which I received awkwardly, and the coffee guy at BooksAMillion randomly gave me his employee discount (I'm guessing because I'm awesome) :P I have started a tradition of ordering whatever the coffee of the day is, and I guess that makes me 'exciting'. Also, I brought my Canon lens cup so that I could be all eco-friendly and whatnot.

Needless to say, he's on my cool list.

I then proceeded to attempt to study. But I actually ended up finding pictures of guys that I think are awesome.
Andrew Bird!

Seth Meyers!

And then this one guy came up and I think (?) he was trying to pick up my friend and I by using our horoscopes... yeah. He pestered us for a little bit, but we sort of just gave him minimal responses until he went away. He was a bit creepy... BUT that's ok. He was harmless.

So yeah. I'm hoping tomorrow goes well. I'm going to put on my happy face and trudge on! Spring Break starts March 12th for me, and I. AM. PUMPED.

Scholarship Weekend

Man. This weekend was probably the longest, most enjoyable one that I've had in a while. As most of you know, I was given the opportunity to participate in a presidential scholarship program at my first choice university. I was, for lack of a better word, extraordinary.

For my personal sanity I'm going to break down my trip into two days.

Friday:

My parents woke me up bright and early at 2:30 a.m. so that we could drive to DFW airport and catch our first flight, which was at 7 a.m. Honestly, I slept for most of the drive up there, and I slept on the plane as well.
I've only ever flown international, so I wasn't used to how tiny the planes were. In fact, I was actually pretty shocked at how tiny everything was! It wasn't that big of a deal though, because my flights were only a few hours long. Nbd. Since I haven't flown in a few years I had to calm myself and do a little yoga. Ironically, when we hit turbulence my dad ended up freaking out more than I did. According to him, it was the worst turbulence he's ever encountered--- which is saying something because he flies A LOT. At the time I didn't know that it was actually that bad... in fact I thought it was just normal. Hooray for not freaking out!

So, note to self: yoga does wonders.
We arrived in Charlotte, NC and then had to catch a connecting flight to Greensboro, and that flight was equally as rocky. But as before, it didn't really bother me.

When we arrived at the airport we did normal boring airport stuff. A shuttle from the college came and picked us up, which was super awesome.

My dad and I kind of chilled in our hotel room until it was time to go to dinner.

The dinner itself was pretty cool. At my table there were kids from other states, and my dad actually became besties with one of the other parents at the table, and whenever I was at interviews or whatever they hung out, and I had the pleasure of talking to the guy's son.

And when I say pleasure, I really mean it, because for the first time I actually met someone who was truly like minded like me. It was weird, because we would have these random moments where we would say the exact same thing at the exact same time... And it happened a handful of times.
He hasn't committed to the university yet, (I think he's deciding between Wesleyan Illinois and Miami Ohio) but it'd be cool coming into the college with an acquaintance. Regardless, our dads exchanged contact info and have planned on staying in touch. Above is a bad picture of my dad (red tie) with the guys. The lighting in the room was flattering to everything but my ability to take a decent picture.

Like a networking goddess, I added everyone that was at my table on Facebook.
And here is a picture of the university president giving his key note speech.

Saturday:

I woke up bright and early at 5 a.m. and prepared for my interviews. Instead of taking the shuttle to the school we rode with my dad's bestie in a camaro that they had rented for the weekend, and when we got to the school we were instructed that the parents and students had to split up for different conferences.

Everything at the school was so beautiful and pristine. I was really impressed that the school lived up to, and even surpassed what was in the brochures. All of the kids there for the scholarship weekend were so nice, and so smart. I felt like everyone was there for the same reasons I was. It was a breath of fresh air.

I had two interviews, one being with someone from the department that I'm majoring in, and another was just someone from a random department. It was cool because at my first interview it was a professor and two of his students asking questions, and at my second interview it was the professor, her aid, and two of her current students. Both of my interviews went well, I did my best, and even if I don't get a scholarship or anything, at least I know that the professors and students are amazing.

And now for more pictures!

Overall, I really enjoyed the weekend. I love the university that I'm going to, and I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. Maybe now I can stop stressing out so much!

I'll be back home tomorrow. I want to say that I'm excited to be going home, but when I have two projects due and a sizable pile of homework waiting on me... well, you know how it is!

Doing better

So I watched this video by Luan Legacy today:

And I feel a bit dumb about my last post. Honestly, I was stressed. I still am a bit stressed and full of doubt about my ability to handle everything, but my friend Sayra shared this quote from Bertrand Russell with me that made me feel a little less crazy:
"The trouble with the world is that the stupid are so confident while the intelligent are full of doubt."
So yeah. I've been doing better. And by better I mean that I've turned in two scholarship apps and I feel pretty good about them. Also I did well on the tests that I was worrying about, so I pretty much did all of that worrying for nothing. So. New goal: for every time I catch myself worrying about something I'm going to make an origami crane.

Also, today I was close to a panic attack due to some issues, so I took off my shoes, cleared some space in the art room and started doing some basic yoga. On the nasty carpet. With about 5 other people in the room.

It felt glorious. Oh so glorious to physically relax my body in the middle of the day. I'm pretty sure people thought I was insane BUT OH WELLZ.

Tomorrow I get to wake up at 5:30am and participate at an academic meet (yeah!) and MAYBE get some homework done...
So. No more sad blogs... at least if I can help it.

Adventures in volunteering

You guys know how I am. I'm a sucker for civil service and whatnot. However instead of my usual hours being dedicated to the public library or random school events I decided to do something a little out of the norm and volunteer to help out at a concert.

I'm part of a female volunteer organization for my school and most of the time we just help out at food kitchens or play bingo with the elderly, so you can imagine my excitement whenever we get to do something different.

The bands that were at the concert were on the Music With A Mission Tour, and if you can't already tell by the tour name it was just a bunch of Christian bands.... yeah. I don't really listen to that much Christian music... in fact the only Christian band I ever listened to was Reliant K, and I honestly didn't know they were Christian until I wikipedia-ed them a year after buying a handful of their songs on iTunes. In the 6th grade.

I guess my lack of interest can be summed up by my confusion. Do they sing about Christian things, or do they just sing in a Christian way? Or both? I don't know. The local bands in my area are 95% screamo and claim to be Christian (whilst citing Slipknot and Pantera as their musical influences on their Facebook pages) so you can understand my confusion. Not that I'm hating on Christian, or screamo music... I just prefer to listen to other things.... Gah. I'm just digging myself into a hole.

Anyways, we were guaranteed a free t-shirt and we could watch the show as long as we made sure there was always at least one person at the merch table. I let the girl I was working with watch as much of the show that she wanted. She seemed more excited than I was about everything. Towards the end when Hawk Nelson was playing I went in and watched a few songs. Their light show was awesome.
You can't really tell in this picture though... Their letters lit up all multicolored at one point, and they had strobe lights going off sporadically.
My friend Amy used my camera to take these pictures. For their encore performance they came out dressed like Journey and sang Don't Stop Believing.

I was a merch monkey for the band Superchick and I had a lot of fun despite it being a little stressful. They had one of the busiest tables aside from Hawk Nelson, but I like selling stuff to people so it was cool. The merch manager was really nice, and a complete hipster dreamboat. As I was chatting with him I found out that he 1) had no idea what day it was 2) was the fill in bassist 3)hadn't showered in a while and 4)thought my little town was pretty cool.

Apparently we are since Weird Al is coming in a few days. I had no idea that we had decent events coming to my town. I really want to go see Riverdance now.

I did my best to pick out the most ambiguous shirt from all of the bands so I wouldn't get any crap for being a poser... >.> Buuuuut whatever. It was free and I live for free stuff.

Around this time last year/That guy I never wrote about

Oh Paul. So nice, so smart.

And probably still in Arkansas.

Last summer, when I went with my mom up to Arkansas I suffered from insomnia that was probably caused by stress, change in environment, and Paul.

Funny story you see, my mom and I have a weird relationship. It didn't really start to get weird until my parents got divorced and I told my mom, who I had been really close to up until that point, that I wanted to live with my dad..... AWKWARD.

Anyways, I used to go through these long periods of time (and I still sort of do) where I didn't see or talk to her, and then I would feel guilty. And then she would rope me into spending extended amounts of time with her. Well, after one of these bouts she roped me into going up to Arkansas with her so we could spend quality time with my new stepdad who had a job up there at the time. Also, I was a bit scared because she was taking my two little sisters up there, and I don't necessarily trust my creepy stepdad, so I my protective-ness came out.

Yeah. It sucked a lot.

On our first night there my stepdad took us bowling, despite the fact that I had repeatedly stated how much I didn't like to bowl. Luckily, they had a decent sized arcade and I managed to weasel $20 from my stepdad to use at the arcade. Once I had cashed the 20 in for quarters I made my way to the hunting games, because those are the only shooting games that I don't completely suck at. The arcade was pretty empty, and I was religiously feeding the machine quarters for about five minutes when I notice this lumberjack wannabe out of the corner of my eye kind of messing with some of the other first person shooter games.

About another five minutes, and 3 quarters later he walks over, picks up the blue plastic rifle next to mine and asks, with a hint of a southern accent if he could play against me. Me, being the smooth operator that I am, just nodded my head dumbly, almost missing the last three deer shots.

It was bizarre, to say the least. Playing a hunting game with some stranger, who could have been a child predator for all I knew. At first I didn't really pay any attention to him, and I just kept my eyes glued to the glowing screen in front of us that had the occasional deer/bison/rabbit running across it, but after a little bit things weren't so weird and I found myself exchanging friendly banter with him, and joking about how games like this make schmucks like us think that we can actually hunt successfully.

While it didn't feel like a long time, once we were both out of quarters I checked my phone and noticed that I hand spent nearly two hours at the arcade with this guy. And then I remembered that my mom had told me that we were leaving at nine, and it was already ten till. I turned to my impromptu gaming opponent and mumbled somewhat of an awkward bye/nice to meet you. And then we both sort of stood there for a minute talking, in this in between mode of leaving/staying.

"So... Thanks for wasting time with me. I'm Paul by the way."

"Oh. Yeah! I'm Lizzi."

"Yeah, um. Well it was cool just randomly playing with you. My friends dragged me here. Beer and bowling, ya know. And I'm driving them all home."

"Ok....?"

"......."

"......."

And now completely mortified because I didn't know how to eject myself from the conversation I just stood there and tried to mask my embarrassment by smiling and trying to walk out of the arcade area. Paul was a bit of a chatter box. In the span of a few minutes he had informed me that he went to Arkansas Tech, worked at a Hot Topic, and was wondering if we could hang out more while I was still in town.

I don't know if I was completely out of my mind, or if I just wanted to rebel against my mom, but I gave him our address, and told him I could hang out at night.

So we did. And for the rest of the 5 days I spent in Arkansas, those 5 nights I also hung out with Paul. The entire time I thought, "Man, this is some weird Nick and Norah stuff. Stuff like this never happens in real life." But it did. And it was the most fun I had that entire summer. We drove around town, walked in some creepy fields with the moon lighting our way, and got the munchies. A lot. When I left Arkansas we didn't say bye, exchange numbers, or become Facebook friends. He emailed me once but I didn't respond. I knew it wouldn't be the same, so I just let it be.

For the longest time I didn't even tell my best friend about him because I knew that if I did it just wouldn't be as special. This was the one thing that I didn't want to over think or over analyze to the point of it having no meaning. He was cool. And now I think about how much I've changed since last June.

It's like the freaking Twilight Zone in my head whenever I think about Paul.

Winter's chill chilled me to the bone this year

So a few posts back I mentioned signing up to be in CAKE's music video for The Winter, and today I got my section that I'll be filming!

I'm going to be singing the first line of the song, then 1 minute in I'll sing the background vocals, and then 1 minute 11 seconds in I'll be da-da-da da da da daaaaaaaa-ing.

And since I have a part at the VERY beginning of the song I have to film at sunrise! It will be epic! I'm planning on getting my friend Rebekka to help me with it this weekend... she doesn't know that she's helping me with it yet :P

Ahhhhh I can barely contain myself! I have to have my segment done by the 30th so I might be able to post my parts on here a bit later....

:D
:D
:D

This totally made my month.

I'm sort of glad blogger crashed

I'll rip off the band-aid right now and just say: I didn't win class vice president. All american boy won. And to make it worse, after school he added me on Facebook.

But don't worry! I'm ok!

Not that many people know the results yet, but the people who I've told so far are disappointed. In fact, I think they're more disappointed than I am because they loath all american boy.

Like I predicted, the votes were split between us all and my Achilles heel happened to be my lazy friends who could barely leave their lunch table to vote for me. BUT THAT'S OK. I'm working on getting over it. (cue violent twitching)

Danny ran under the campaign: Vote for me because it's my birthday (and I'll cry if I lose)

All american boy ran under the campaign: Vote for me and you'll get this free bond t-shirt...wait. Let me stand over your shoulder as you vote so that I know you're not lying to me.

Mauri ran under the campaign: Vote for me because I'm a cheerleader.

And I ran under a clean campaign that simply wanted good reunions that didn't cost an arm and a leg to produce. However, my friend Nathan H. and I have decided to just throw reunions unofficially and do things that way. It works.

I didn't guilt people into giving me pity votes, I didn't hold my popularity and looks over every body's head, and I didn't bribe people with free t-shirts that only promoted my own agenda, so I feel pretty good that I lost.

One thing that did bug me though was a friend of mine, who had been a friend of mine for I don't know 6 YEARS decided that she didn't know who to vote for. Her solution? Make me play rock paper scissors with Danny, best two out of three wins. Excuse me? After all the times I told people that you weren't a lying, dumbass slut (their words, not mine)? After all the times I was there for you when your life went down the crapper? Rock? Paper? Scissors? Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Me?!

So I politely told her no. And that I wasn't going to pressure her into voting for me, because I'm a good friend and rah rah rah, this didn't mean that much to me anyways. Like I said I'm more upset that people didn't care enough to do me this ONE TINY FAVOR that only required about 5 minutes tops of their time.

I drowned my emotions in swiss cheese sauce that I made in 10 minutes and watched some really awesome movies, and read some awesome blogs that you guys wrote, and my parents are proud that I was ambitious, and that I put myself out there.

But yeah. I'm still yearbook co-editor. I'm still going to an awesome college in less than two years. I still have really awesome friends who went above and BEYOND for me, and will always be there for me. I still have you guys :)

Nonstop face painting, and nonverbals.

Working with special needs kids is something... else. I honestly have a completely new respect for the guardians and caretakers of those kids because of today, and I was only face painting!

For about 3 hours straight I did nonstop face painting on various special needs kids, and I smiled so much I felt my face was going to fall off.

My day started out interestingly enough with my friend Caleb getting orange juice poured on him by his crazy ex for turning some jeans she gave him into shorts... Yeah. His mom had to bring him a different shirt to change into.

Anyways, besides what seemed like endless face painting on my part, I had a fun time. Towards the end of the day we kind of goofed off and painted silly things and just messed around in general.

Ryan, the guy running against me for class VP was also there helping his special needs buddy carry the banner... Which reminds me, he caught me putting up a really large poster in the counselor hallway today and it was pretty funny. It ended with me yelling after him saying "I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU," and him making weird gestures in response.

The Thespians decided to dress up as popular characters and my friend Kenneth decided to be Harry Potter! I couldn't resist getting a picture with him. He's so precious! (in a non Golem-esque way)
All of the 120 students that helped out were cleared from having to go to class so once I got back to school I passed out on the floor of the art room with my friend Bekka. Concrete does wonders on your spine, just in case you were wondering.

Anyways, Natalie tagged me in this thing, so I felt that I out to fill it out.

What did you do 10 years ago? Well, I was seven. So that means I was drawing Arthur and Powerpuff Girls like crazy... Oh, and obsessing over anything on Disney Channel, including Lizzie McGuire.

What did you do one year ago? Well, luckily I did a post this day last year, so you can just click this link. I was really engrossed in Chemistry.

Five bad habits? Well, I'm picky, I procrastinate like a mother f, I chip at my nail polish, I stay up late ALL SUMMER, and I judge books by their cover art.

Five things you like to do? Surf the web, eat, paint, walk, and pretend I'm a stand up comedian.

Five things you would never dress in or buy? Paisley, a bikini, a mascot suit, thigh high boots, a slutty fairy Halloween costume.

Five favorite toys? Sock monkeys, Barbie, play-doh, motorized toys, wind up toys.

Things I'm Happy About

So lately I've been caught up in this miasma of self doubt and pity, and I'm tired of it. I mean, I'm young, able bodied, and not Justin Beiber... I should count my blessings! So for posterity, here's a list of the top ten things that make me happy right now.

1. My blogger friends! (Cherry, Aria, Natalie, Em, K.P., and everyone else!)
2. Mumford and Sons
3. Korean Dramas
4. Spring Break
5. Left over valentine's day candy
6. Being finished with all of my yearbook pages
7. The Great Gatsby (despite all of the mishaps in the book, it's a pretty decent read)
8. My grandma going back to her house after spending 2 weeks recovering from eye surgery at my house
9. My somewhat dumb puppy that growls at himself in the mirror
10. My figment short that I wrote for a steampunk contest. It had to be 750 words or less, and I managed to make it EXACTLY 750 words. Now I will shamelessly plug it and ask for you to "heart" it. Winner gets a free nook.

Class Ring!

Although you may find my enthusiasm nauseating, I don't care. I can now punch a motha trucka in the face and leave a nasty ring imprint. Also, who can resist a little bling?

Off to Olivanders!

So....

Since I'm going to be a senior next year and whatnot, my grandparents decided to surprise me the other day with the news that this July I'll be going to THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER!

It's my senior/birthday gift, and I'll be staying about 4 days at the park, but I'll probably be on the road making stops and such for about 10 days. Driving from Texas to Florida will be... not as bad as driving from Texas to Las Vegas.

Anyways, I'm excited because on our way there we're going to be stopping at Paula Dean's restaurant and various historical sites and kitschy locations!

Now all I have to do is try to stay sane waiting for July to roll around.

Epic of my life

CLICK IF YOU CAN'T READ IT.

For those of you who are uneducated in the knowledge of sophisticated comedic television, I'm sorry. For those of you who know who Daniel Tosh is, I have one thing to say: DREAMS DO COME TRUE!
